Rolly Francia, DOLE Information and Publication Service Director, cited the report of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office-London saying 79 more OFWs have been added to the more than 1,000 COVID-19 cases there.“Seventy-nine OFWs were added from January 14 to 17…mostly nurses,” said Francia in a virtual forum.
He said the POLO also revealed that starting Jan. 18 all those who will enter London are now required to present proof that they are negative of COVID. “This includes incoming OFWs…they won’t be allowed in the UK territory without the negative test results,” Francia said. On Sunday, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III renewed his call to OFWs to follow health and safety measures imposed in their host countries especially in the face of the new strain of the coronavirus.
“There is no room for complacency. We cannot let our guard down. Despite the availability of Covid vaccines in your country of work, the virus remains an imminent threat to your health and safety,” he said.
