An earthquake with a magnitude measuring 4.7 hit the waters off Davao Occidental around 12:23 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the seismic event was tectonic in origin, which means that it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.Meanwhile, the earthquake was “weak” at Intensity III in General Santos City.
