‘Madami , sobra!’ With flood of international offers, Marcelito still feels like a winner after ‘AGT’

MANILA — Marcelito Pomoy may have finished third runner-up in “The Champions” edition of “America’s Got Talent,” but the Filipino singer still feels like a winner with the flood of offers he has been receiving after being seen internationally. Admittedly, Pomoy initially felt disappointed he wasn’t proclaimed champion, but that was outweighed by the prospect of continuing his international career, thanks to his exposure via the US program. “Kung anuman ang tinadhana sa akin, siyempre kailangan mo tanggapin,” he told ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe on Tuesday, after the airing of the final results show of “America’s Got Talent.” “Kahit sino namang contestant, ‘pag tinawag kang third place or fourth place, siyempre nakakasama rin ng loob. Sa akin, okay lang, kasi siyempre, malaking [advantage] sa akin kasi nakilala ako all over the world,” he said. For Pomoy, the group deserves the grand prize, noting their talent as well as its members’ living conditions in their native India. Asked whether he, too, got a prize as runner-up, Pomoy said that’s not the case. What he earned, however, he considers just as valuable as being proclaimed champion. “Sa ngayon kasi, kahit third place ako, makatungtong ka lang sa ‘America’s Got Talent,’ malaking factor na sa ‘yo ‘yan, e, kasi all over the world ang nakakakilala sa ‘yo. Noong audition ko pa lang, ang daming nag-inquire sa aking puro international, kaya ang saya ko na,” he said. Just recently Pomoy was in Singapore for a performance, and is now scheduled for appearances in Japan, Indonesia, Canada, Australia, and the US in the coming months. Watch more in iWant or TFC.tv “Madami, sobra!” he said, hinting further opportunities are lined up. Pomoy, who won the second season of “Pilipinas Got Talent” in 2011, credited his experience in “The Champions” competition for a fresh boost in his confidence as a performer. “Iyong nakapunta ako doon, nakapag-perform ako doon, at namangha sa akin ang mga tao doon, hindi lang Pilipino. Akala ko pang-Pilipinas lang ako. Sabi ko sa sarili ko, ‘Hindi pala, pang-international pala ako!’” he said. Referring to the judges of “America’s Got Talent,” as well as its producers, Pomoy went on: “Sobrang nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila. Sa nangyari sa akin ngayon, iba ang feedback ng tao, e. Kung hindi dahil sa kanila, kung hindi dahil sa ‘America’s Got Talent,’ wala ako sa kinalalagyan ko ngayon na nakilala sa buong mundo.” Read more: ABS-CBN News
