Around 3,000 candles were used to create an illustration of Our Lady of the Rosary -- an image of Blessed Virgin Mary carrying the child Jesus, shrouded by a rosary. According to youth coordinator John Christian Dumancas, forming the Image of the Holy Rosary through candles is their way of showing ability, creativity and devotion.
Iloilo City is known for its devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Rev. Fr. Raymundo Edsel Alcayaga, OSA said. One of the parish's retablos keeps a 403-year-old image of the Blessed Virgin Mary holding a rosary, the oldest image in the entire city. "If we can regain this devotion to the Holy Rosary it could be a great help in strengthening our faith and making our faith in God very strong,” said Alcayaga.He also said it makes "one's faith get stronger" and makes one "closer to God."
