A photo shared by Senator Bong Go showed Duterte with Diez, and other individuals, including transgender lawmaker Geraldine Roman and Dindi Tan of LGBT Pilipinas.
A statement from Go's office said the senator arranged the meeting upon the request of LGBTQ+ rights advoates. "The President said during the meeting that the Palace will work with both houses of Congress to push for the passage of a version of the SOGIE Equality Bill that would protect the rights of individuals against discrimination," the statement said.
The possibility of creating a commission for LGBTQ+ was also discussed, pending the enactment of the SOGIE law.
