MANILA - Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Saturday vowed to include a "historic increase of budget infusion" for the Philippines' research and development efforts if elected president next year.
Lacson did not give details which sectors would receive a chunk of the proposed budget, although he said his administration would focus on the "digitalization of government processes." In July, Department of Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña said the agency's current P22.8-billion budget has not reached the benchmark set by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization .
"This is our budget reform to improve the delivery of basic services, creating employment opportunities, and improving the lives of our people, especially in the disadvantaged, far-flung communities," he said.
Translation: More debts as if 11 Trillion Dollars is yet not enough.
