The Associated Labor Unions (ALU) said millions of workers are returning to work on Monday (June 1) with a heavy feeling amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

ALU spokesperson Alan Tanjusay said despite the threat of COVID-19, poverty-stricken workers are compelled to return to work deeply worried about their job security.

“We also ask a freer company tardiness rule to accommodate employees whose travel time is increased by inadequate mass transport system and longer health and safety measures along the way,” Tanjusay said. Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the passage of the stimulus measure will “enable the government to extend wage subsidy to workers and help them recover from the effects of the global health pandemic.”
