Jesuit volunteer killed in Bukidnon; co-volunteer escaped but injured

A female Jesuit volunteer died while another volunteer was injured when they were stabbed by a still unidentified assailant Friday afternoon in Bukidnon.

Genifer Buckly (Facebook) The fatality Genifer Buckly, of Zamboanga del Sur, died after suffering multiple stab wounds in the body. Her co-volunteer, lawyer Anne Kathleen Gatdula, 30, of Quezon City, on the other hand, was brought to a hospital in Maramag, Bukidnon were she is currently undergoing treatment. A report from the Provincial Police Office of Malaybalay said that the stabbing happened at around 2 pm in Kinilayan Village, Poblacion, Bukidnon. The suspect reportedly forcibly entered the house where the two volunteers were staying and for a still unknown reason started stabbing the two. On August 13, Gatdula reported a robbery at their boarding house wherein the robber got away with P 3,000 and several IDs. Investigators are still not sure whether the suspect who stabbed the two victims was the same person who committed the said robbery. They are now conducting an investigation. Police were told that the victims don’t usually come home in the afternoon but that day they had to because they needed to get some things before heading to Malaybalay. Investigators believe that the suspect might have already been inside the house when the two victims arrived home. Buckly, graduated from ADZU in 2015 earning a BS Education degree and eventually volunteered for the Jesuit Volunteers Program (JVP). She, together with her partner Gatdula was deployed to the Pangantucan Community High School in May, 2019 to teach. In a statement, Father Karel San Juan, President of ADZU said: “Your tragic death pains us deeply, Gen. But your life, your joyful love and service console and inspire us. You gave your life to your family, friends, students, and to many others. Your generous spirit will forever stay in our hearts.” Related Posts Read more: Manila Bulletin News
