It’s been a Jumanji year so far: Loose ostrich in QC trends online

A netizen spotted an ostrich running in a village in Quezon City on Tuesday, August 4. Dino Rivera caught the ostrich on video, running past motorcycles and cars inside Mapayapa Village III.

Like a comic relief to recent morbid affairs, netizens referred to what happened to Jumanji, a fictional board game that releases jungle creatures and natural hazards to wreak havoc in the players’ urban reality.As of 3 pm, “Jumanji” ranked 3rd in Philippine trends with around 8,000 tweets, while there were almost 20,000 tweets for “Ostrich.”

Village guards stopped the ostrich from going outside by closing the gates and putting down the plank barrier. Netizens joked that in the spirit of the times, the ostrich complied not to go out as it did not have a quarantine pass. However, some raised concerns about the ostrich’s situation, saying wildlife should not be left roaming the city.

In an update from ABS-CBN, the ostrich in the video was already caught and taken care of. Rivera said the main road of their subdivision was already cleared of ostriches by 11 am. It is not yet known where the ostriches came from.
