Residents in low-lying communities in Isabela were warned against possible flooding as Magat Dam continues to release water from its reservoir on Thursday afternoon.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said areas that are likely to be affected by Magat Dam’s release of water are the municipalities of Ramon, San Mateo, Aurora, Cabatuan, Luna, Reina Mercedes, Burgos, Naguilian, and Gamu, all in Isabela province. The water level of Magat Dam rose to 191.29 meters on Thursday afternoon, which is near the spilling level of 193.0 meters.PAGASA attributed the increase in Magat Dam’s water level to the recent rains brought by typhoon “Pepito” and the northeasterly surface wind flow.
It observed 55 millimeters of moderate rainfall over a span of 24 hours, and projected 30-60 millimeters of rainfall in the next 24 hours.Residents in low-lying communities and near river channels were advised to take appropriate action in case flooding occurs.
