MANILA - The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Friday rewarded over P14 million worth of cash to five informants whose tips led to the deaths and arrests of five leaders of rebel group New People's Army .
The AFP distributed a total of P14,250,000 to the informants in a ceremony usually reserved for supposed tipsters who worked against terror group Abu Sayyaf. The awarding emphasizes AFP's shift to strengthen its fight against rebels, in line with the goal to end communist insurgency by the end of President Rodrigo Duterte's term in 2022.
The informants wore masks to conceal their identity, and were not named nor allowed to be interviewed. They were immediately ushered out after AFP chief of staff Gen. Benjamin Madrigal awarded them with the cash.
