Imee Marcos wants gov't to borrow P440M to fund cash aid program for COVID-19 crisis

MANILA - Sen. Imee Marcos on Wednesday urged the Finance department to borrow some P440 billion from international lenders to bolster the government's emergency cash aid for the poor program during the coronavirus lockdown in Luzon.

"Hindi economic target ang dapat natin sagipin ngayon kundi buhay ng tao. Bakit kasi nagkukuripot ang DOF kung marami naman ang pwedeng pagkunan ng pondo?" Marcos said in a statement. Marcos said the amount may not be enough since the lockdown of the Philippines' most populated island may be extended beyond April 30 as the government's mass testing program has yet to begin.
