To protect the well-being of students in times of calamity and epidemic, the House of Representatives has empowered the President to reset the date for the start of the school year.

With all 241 House members present voting in the affirmative, the legislative chamber passed on third and final reading on Thursday House Bill No. 6895 that will also extend the school calendar from the current 200 days to 220 by amending Section 3 of Republic Act No. 7797 that provides a school calendar of 200 days.

The new law may then be applied for the current school calendar that had been disrupted by the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. Among the authors of the bill were Reps. Wes Gatchalian ; Michael John Duavit ; Eduardo “Bro.Eddie” Villanueva , and Ann Hofer .
