Citing urgency amid the looming September 30 deadline, the committee approved House Bill No. 10261 filed by Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, Majority Leader Martin Romualdez, and Minority Leader Joseph Stephen Paduano.ADVERTISEMENT“For all intents and purposes, registration of new voters would have been an ordinary concern. But we are living under extraordinary circumstances. The public health crisis has been prolonged and many prospective voters have been forced to delay their registration this year and in 2020,” the House leaders said.
“At a time of uncertainty, each and every office of the government is tasked to be flexible and alert. In order to avoid massive voter disenfranchisement, the Comelec (Commission on Elections) must extend the period of voter registration until 31 October 2021,” they added.Read more: Inquirer »
