Hidilyn Diaz to receive P33 million for historic Olympic gold

Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham"Bambol" Tolentino also dangled a house and lot for every athlete who will win the gold.The 30-year-old weightlifter from Zamboanga became the first Filipina double Olympic medalist after her 2016 Rio Olympic silver medal conquest.

Swimmer Teofilo Yldefonso is the only other multi-medaled Filipino Olympian after winning the bronze in the men’s 200 meter breaststroke in both the 1928 Amsterdam and 1932 Los Angeles. Diaz edged out world record holder China's Liao Qiuyun for the gold when she closed out the women's 55kg event with a golden lift of 127kg in the clean and jerk.

She also set the Olympic records in the clean and jerk and the event total of 224kg, as the weight category makes a debut in the quadrennial meet. Diaz is being supported by the PSC and is one of the 14 athletes sponsored by Pangilinan's MVP Sports Foundation.
