A Filipino film about domestic abuse has been chosen as the official film entry of the Philippines to the 92nd Annual Academy Awards or The Oscars.

“Verdict,” starring Max Eigenmann and the late Kristoffer King, is listed in the International Feature Film category.“Congratulations and best of luck to the producers of the movie,” said the Film Academy of the Philippines on its Facebook post announcing the news.

Directed by Raymund Ribay Gutierrez and produced by Brillante Mendoza of CenterStage Productions, the film tells about the life of Joey , who decides not to tolerate her husband Dante′s violence anymore when her six-year-old daughter Angel gets hurt. Joey waits for the judgment of the law, but the law never stands on her side.The film will also have its Canadian Premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival; then on Busan International Film Festival in South Korea.

The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California on Feb. 9, 2020.
