Dr. Mario Jiz of the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine said studies indicated the persistence of antibodies is longer after booster shots compared to those with second doses only. And unless there will be more mutations of the virus in the future, additional boosters won’t be necessary, except for the immune compromised and the elderly.

FDA acting director general Oscar Gutierrez said Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin is applying for an amendment to its emergency use authorization for the use of its jabs on those aged two to 18. Sinovac also applied for the use of its vaccine on those aged 3 to 11 and 12 to 17, while Sinopharm has an application for those aged three to 17.

Once approved, the self-test kits would be given special certification by the FDA so they will be available to households and individuals.
