Even without a dedicated subject in Philippine History in high school, the Department of Education guaranteed that essential contents and concepts in developing nationalism and civic competence among Filipino learners are embedded and integrated into all grade levels.
The existing Araling Panlipunan Curriculum, DepEd explained, covers contents on Philippine History which serve as take-off points in all discussions relative to Asian Studies, World History, Economics and Contemporary Issues in Junior High School and Understanding Culture, Society and Politics, Philippine Politics and Governance in Senior High School.
DepEd also stressed that the teaching of nationalism “should not be limited” to the discussion of Philippine revolutions and national heroes as civic competencies should be developed in consonance with the highly evolving social and political systems in integrated global economies.
