INITAO, Misamis Oriental - President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday visited the wake of the "hero cop" killed in a school explosion in Initao, Misamis Oriental.

The family of Police SMSgt. Jason Magno received a posthumous Medal of Valor in honor of the slain lawman. The Order of Lapu-Lapu Magalong Medal was also bestowed by Duterte. “Proud kami sa aming papa kahit na masakit ang nangyari sa kanya,” said Christine Dorothy, one of Magno's children. Last November 28, Magno died in a grenade blast after he attempted to arrest a man terrorizing a school. The suspect, Ibrahim Bashier, lost control of the grenade he was handling, leading to an explosion.Duterte also visited Police SMSgt. Alice Balido who was wounded in the incident. The officer received an Order of Lapu-Lapu Kampilan Medal, cash assistance, a watch, a cellphone, and a new firearm.
