The COVID-19 inter-agency task force has formally recommended that Metro Manila be placed under general community quarantine or GCQ from June 1 to 15, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año confirmed Thursday.
The IATF recommended that starting June 1 Metro Manila — now seen as a"high-to-moderate-risk area" — will transition from a strict modified enhanced community quarantine to a more relaxed GCQ. It added barangays deemed to be"high risk" due to the alarming number of COVID-19 cases will be subject to"zoning," which will be implemented by the National Task Force on COVID-19.
This is similar to the recommendation of all 17 Metro Manila mayors to to ease quarantine restrictions in the capital region to allow more nonessential businesses to reopen in the hopes of restarting the economy and helping workers amid the COVID-19 crisis. Residents in GCQ areas will be allowed to head out, except for those aged below 21 as well as those 60 and older to limit infections. There is also some leeway to socialize in GCQ areas, but religious activities remain prohibited.
on what grounds?
No to GCQ yet. Please extend the MECQ until June 15.
