MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte said Monday he could die happy after he “dismantled the oligarchy” in the Philippines without having to declare martial law.

Duterte made the remark a few days after lawmakers denied ABS-CBN a fresh franchise, a move seen as a fulfillment of the President's earlier promise to ensure the non-renewal of the network's license.

"Without declaring martial law, sinira ko ‘yung mga tao na humahawak sa ekonomiya at umiipit at hindi nagbabayad," Duterte said in a speech before soldiers in Jolo town, Sulu aired Tuesday by the government TV station. He did not name names. The President had gone after the Ayala-owned Manila Water and the Manny Pangilinan-led Maynilad due to "onerous and highly disadvantageous" provisions in its contract with government.

Will the president also dismantle political dynasties?

I think the president should rest from public service... He serves more than enough... Its time for him to sit on his rocking chair and enjoy life... Hes been a good public servant...

Lopez as so-called 'oligarchs' would still survive in the Philippines forever! It's the 11,000 workers who are the casualties of this STUPID ABSCBNShutdown Mawawala na ang rehimen ni GAGONG Duterte Subalit BabalikAngABSCBN Yan ang TOTOO!

what does martial law even have to do with dismantling oligarchy 🤦🏽‍♀️

He hasn't dismantled it here in Las Piñas yet. The Mayor is still from the same family.

A President driven by personal grudges 🤦‍♂️.. And he created a new one - the Denis Uy conglomerate

Hindi cla nag usap2 sa group chat 😒😒😒

Ang walang kinalaman. . .

God help us!

Sunod mo nga si Villar.
