PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law granting night shift differential pay to government employees.

Under the Republic Act 11701, signed by Duterte on April 13, 2022, employees of government-owned or -controlled corporations who are occupying position from division chief and below are entitled to a night shift differential pay not more than 20 percent of the hourly basic rate if they work between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

“Provided, that the night shift differential pay provided under this act shall be in addition to and shall not in any way diminish whatever benefits and allowances are presently enjoyed by government employees,” the law reads. All permanent, contractual, temporary or casual employees are covered by the law, except those whose schedule of office hours fall between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. and those whose services are required or are on call 24/7, such as the uniformed personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
