CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The Department of Labor and Employment- Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) said Tuesday that it has released a total of P63.3 million to at least 14,751 workers displaced by Typhoon “Tisoy” which hit the region in December last year.

DOLE-Mimaropa said the assistance was given through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Mga Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers , a work-for-food program engaging the beneficiaries to perform cleaning and de-clogging of canals and basic repairing of public infrastructure for ten to 20 days.

Under the program, a worker is paid P320 a day for his work, which is also the minimum wage in the region. Workers were briefed about the health and safety aspects of their work before their engagement and were required to be insured for one year. The program was implemented in coordination with local government units through their respective Public Employment Service Offices as accredited co-partners which directly supervised the delivery of TUPAD services.“I’m very thankful that I’m one of the beneficiaries who were assigned to clean the facilities of Calapan Central School affected by the typhoon last December. The government did not discriminate on people who were called under this program,” said Jay-R E. Valenzuela, a PWD.

In Romblon, DOLE also announced that P1.1 million will be given to 358 beneficiaries in the first quarter of 2020.
