“Although there is an incremental increase in reproduction number (Rt) from 0.82 at the start of March 2022 to 1.03 last April 22, these were small and not sustained. Moreover, it is important to note that the reproduction number is just one of the metrics that is used by the department to monitor and assess the COVID-19 situation in the country,” the DOH said.

The slight increase of COVID-19 reproduction number in the National Capital Region did not lead to any sustained increases in admissions, the Department of Health said on Friday.

The reproduction rate refers to the number of people infected by one case. A reproduction number that is below one indicates that the transmission of the virus is slowing down. The DOH said that COVID-19 cases may rise if the minimum public health standards will not be properly observed and maintained.
