The Philippines’ active COVID-19 cases have now exceeded the 5,000 mark, the Department of Health reported Wednesday.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the country’s current active COVID-19 cases now stand at 5,113, the highest tally since May 3, 2022. There were also 593 new coronavirus cases recorded in the country, bringing the nationwide tally to 3,697,793.Metro Manila recorded the highest COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks with 2,793 infections. It was followed by Region IV-A with 864 new cases, Western Visayas with 458, Central Luzon with 413, and Central Visayas with 231.

The DOH said Philippine hospitals' COVID-19 occupancy rate remains at a safe level with 17.5 percent or 29,967 occupied beds nationwide. — Sundy Locus/BM, GMA News
