— The Department of Energy strongly reiterated it will not meddle in the legal battle between two firms over power distribution in this city.“It’s up to the courts. The decision is with the judiciary,” said DOE Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella.
He was referring to the ongoing legal battle between embattled Panay Electric Co. and the MORE Electric and Power Corp. , which is owned by billionaire Enrique Razon Jr. “The DOE can only monitor and make sure power will not be cut off to consumers,” noted Fuentebella while in Iloilo City Tuesday. To recall, MORE Power obtained a congressional franchise to distribute power in Iloilo City in February 2019. But since then, MORE Power could not technically operate as it did not own a single facility in the city.
Instead, it is now caught in a legal battle with PECO to acquire its assets and facilities. PECO continues to operate despite an expired franchise. The legal battle between MORE Power and PECO has reached the Supreme Court.
