DNA test confirms Sulu bomber a woman

"Of the 20 specimens recovered from the crime scene, 'yung 13, said to be similar to a female DNA profile. While the 7, said to have partial DNA profile," said Police Col. Elimer Catabay, deputy director for operations of the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory Group.However, the PNP Crime Laboratory Group could not determine yet if the suspect was a Filipino or a foreigner.

"Puwede nating malaman 'yan kung meron tayong standard for comparison. For the questioned specimen alone, I think we cannot determine whether this is a foreigner or Filipino. But if there is a standard sample coming from a certain individual, diyan natin makikita, kung matched sila," Catabay said.The police crossmatched the DNA samples in their database, but they came out negative.

"So far, negative po siya, walang na-match. Ang laman ng DNA database natin ay 'yung DNA na na-encode natin galing sa mga arrested suspects, mga nakukuha namin sa crime scenes," Catabay said. He said they will ask for help from Interpol to crossmatch the DNA from a bigger database to determine if the female suicide bomber was a foreigner.
