MANILA—The Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday instructed Filipinos in Lebanon to take precaution amid anti-government protests there.

"Filipinos are urged to stay away from areas where protests are taking place, and to remain indoors as much as possible," the DFA said in a statement.

The Philippine embassy in capital Beirut said there are currently no reports of Filipinos affected by the protests. " will continue to monitor the situation and will provide the corresponding public advisory, as necessary," the DFA said.On Friday, anti-government protests fueled by rising fury over an economic crisis erupted across the country and descended into riots on the streets of Beirut.

Tens of thousands of people across Lebanon marched to demand the demise of a political elite they accuse of looting the economy to the point of collapse.
