Recognizing the need to decongest the current curriculum, the Department of Education (DepEd) is currently reviewing the K to 12 curriculum for basic education.

Citing initial results of the K to 12 review, DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio, in a virtual press briefing this week, said that the curriculum review “has actually showed that our curriculum standards, performance and context standards are comparable with that standards of any other country around the world.”

San Antonio said during the curriculum review, DepEd also found out that there is a “good vertical alignment and articulation” of the curriculum. Having “horizontal alignment” in the curriculum, San Antonio said, would enable certain lessons being covered in a specific subject to be relevant to lessons in other subjects or learning areas.
