According to Undersecretary for Planning, Human Resource, and Organization Development Jesus Mateo, there are 4.5 million incoming Kinder, Grades 1, 7 and 11 learners who are already registered for the upcoming school year of June 2021. This, he noted, is “higher” compared to previous early registration in SY 2021-2021.
Mateo said that for the rest of the grade levels, there will be an enrollment period. The schedule, however, will depend on the approved date of school opening for SY 2021-2022. Meanwhile, Education Secretary Leonor Briones said that DepEd continues to prepare for the school opening because “education should continue” even during emergencies such as the ongoing coronavirus disease pandemic.
Last school year, DepEd also gave the President three choices for school opening: Aug. 24, Sept. 7, and Oct. 5. President Duterte chose the latest date, thus, classes in public schools nationwide started on Oct. 5 wherein students learned lessons at at home using multiple learning delivery modalities such as modular , online learning, television and radio-based instruction and blended learning .
