DAVAO CITY - The Davao City Council has approved on Thursday P32,295,200 financial assistance for the hog raisers from a barangay here which was recently hit by the Asian swine fever. The amount is expected to help them cope with their losses.

– The Davao City Council has approved on Thursday P32,295,200 financial assistance for the hog raisers from a barangay here which was recently hit by the Asian swine fever. The amount is expected to help them cope with their losses.In a special session on Thursday, February 20, the city council approved a resolution, placing Barangay Inayangan in Calinan District under a state of calamity after testing positive for ASF infestation.

“Based on the continued surveillance and monitoring activities conducted by the City Veterinarian’s Office, the ASF virus was not totally contained and its incursion is now observed at Barangay Inayangan, Calinan District, in which five puroks are affected,” the resolution stated. The city government will allocate the amount which was a portion of the 30 percent QRF out of the five percent Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Calamity Fund of the City for the calendar year 2020.

The City Veterinarian’s Office has immediately recommended the “1-7–10 Protocol” to manage and control the contagion of the ASF. Lock down shall be in effect within the one-kilometer radius from the site of infection or ground zero, wherein transport of hogs or swine, are prohibited.Meanwhile, within the area of seven-kilometer radius from ground zero, hogs will be strictly monitored as well with regular blood testing on the hogs to determine the existence or occurrence of ASF virus.
