The average number of COVID-19 deaths recorded daily this month dropped to 68 from 168 in September, a health official says.

"Mas mababa ang deaths nangyari ngayong Oktubre kumpara noong Setyembre at Agosto," Department of Health chief epidemiologist Alethea de Guzman told a government briefing."We peaked at 168 deaths per day nung pong September at ngayon, tayo ay nag-a-average na lamang ng 68 deaths per day," she added.

[Translation: We peaked at 168 deaths per day in September, but now we are averaging only 68 deaths per day.] The country remains at low risk for COVID-19 due to the continuous decline in new infections, she also said. Despite these improvements, the public must continue to comply with safety and health protocols, so the number of new infections and fatalities could drop further, de Guzman stressed.
