ICYMI: Among the regions, Metro Manila recorded the most COVID deaths with 18,044 (24 percent), followed by Calabarzon (22.1 percent) and Central Luzon (18.9 percent). | via onenewsph

COVID-19 is now the third leading cause of death in the country, data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed on Monday, Jan. 17.

The discrepancy was because the PSA data were based on descriptions written on all death certificates certified by local health officers, while DOH data were collected through a surveillance system. Deaths due to cerebrovascular diseases came in second with 58,880 . COVID-19 came in third, followed by neoplasms or cancer, with 48,937 deaths .

Those who recuperated from the infection rose to 2,898,507 with the inclusion of 33,940 additional recoveries. Additional 23 deaths pushed to 52,929 the total number of COVID-related deaths.
