The Duterte administration's chief economic manager believes that mass testing is

The Duterte administration’s chief economic manager believes that mass testing is “a must” for coronavirus disease in the Philippines once the government has the capacity to conduct a large-scale detection program.Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III said late Tuesday that the government needs to build its capacity before it ramps up the country’s mass COVID-19 testing program in combating the pandemic.

“It’s a must,” Dominguez told reporters in a mobile phone message when asked about his thoughts on calls for COVID-19 mass testing. But Dominguez admitted that mass testing is not yet feasible at the moment based on the discussions of the Inter-Agency Task Force and Department of Health. “If we don’t have it now, we shouldn’t despair but rather build up the capacity to do so,” the finance chief explained.

As of Tuesday, the Philippines has 2,084 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with nationwide deaths of 88 and 49 recoveries.
