JUST IN: The number of coronavirus disease cases in the Philippines has surpassed 29,000 with the validation of 943 new infections. | CMarquezINQ

Health authorities said COVID-19 patients in the country jumped to 29,400, inclusive of 578 “fresh” cases and 365 “late” cases.DOH also reported that 20 virus-stricken persons have died, raising the fatality count to 1,150; while 272 more patients were able to recover from the respiratory illness, bringing total recoveries to 7,650.

For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
