The Court of Appeals (CA) has decided to suspend work on Friday, March 19, for a “more thorough disinfection, cleaning and sanitation” of its offices on Maria Orosa Street in Ermita, Manila due to 18 active cases of corona virus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) infections among employees.

The suspension of work was recommended by Associate Justice Ramon R. Garcia, head of the COVID-19 response committee, and approved by Presiding Justice Remedios A. Salazar Fernando.Starting Monday, March 22, only 50 per cent of all employees will be allowed to report for work while the remaining 50 per cent will do work from home.

As presiding justice, Fernando implemented strict measures to contain the spread of COVID-in all CA offices in the country. There are CA offices in Cagayan de Oro City for Mindanao and in Cebu City for the Visayas. Garcia said that once an employee is detected to have symptoms upon his entry at the CA compound, he or she is immediately isolated and the court’s medical staff will being him or her to the nearest hospital for check up.
