Constitutional reforms ‘not impossible’ under 18th Congress — Herrera

Herrera added to the list of House leaders who were convinced that there is time for Congress to carry out the economic Charter change.

Herrera expressed the House leadership’s commitment that they will solely focus on revising the economic provisions of the 34-year old Charter as provided under Resolution of Both Houses No. 2, principally authored by Speaker Lord Allan Velasco. Herrera said the Cha-cha deliberations are expected from January to December this year and that the plebiscite is expected to be conducted together with the 2022 national elections.

In a Viber message, La Union 2nd District Rep. Sandra Eriguel, chairperson of the House Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Diplomacy, expressed confidence that economic Cha-cha is possible this 18th Congress.

SSS appeals to Congress not to defer contribution rate hikeThe Social Security System (SSS) has appealed to Congress not to defer the implementation of the contribution rate hike scheduled for this year as the pension fund's financial viability may be adversely affected by its postponement. While people have no jobs, wondering how to make both ends meet and businesses closing down how can the Govt increase it now? They should wait till it goes back to normal. Fine the people who do not follow safety protocols & give that money to the hospitals. They need masks. This thing has to be an economic decision and not a political one. A downfall of the SSS will be disastrous to our country. The SSS heads should at the same time commit to make the system more money efficient by reducing costs, starting with executive salaries and benefits. ayusin muna online services
