The Chinese government on Friday warned pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong not to proceed with a planned school boycott in protest against Beijing's move to impose a national security law on the territory.
In a statement, the office criticized pro-democracy group Demosisto and its leaders such as Joshua Wong for trying to use schoolchildren in their opposition to the legislation. During last year's anti-government movement that rocked Hong Kong for months after being sparked by a groundswell of popular opposition to a controversial bill, many schoolchildren boycotted classes in protest.
