The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) clarified that the 1st National Students’ Day Youth Camp set for Saturday is “not officially endorsed” by the commission.

“The Commission wants to clarify that pursuant to Republic Act No. 11369, known as the ‘National Students’ Day Act, it is the National Youth Commission that is mandated to take the lead in the implementation of activities to commemorate the National Students’ Day in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education , Department of Education , and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority ,” CHED Chairman Dr. Prospero De Vera III said.

De Vera said the National Youth Commission has a “separate event” on November 16, 2019 to “celebrate” the National Student’s Day: Fitfil Youth Against Drugs Program to be held at the SM Mall of Asia. “NYC is not part of the 1st National Students’ Day Youth Camp organized and spearheaded by other parties,” he said.

Meanwhile, De Vera noted that the Commission “strongly endorses” the National Students’ Day Celebration: Fitfil Youth Against Drugs Program spearheaded by NYC and withdraws its Memorandum dated November 07, 2019 which was “released due to circumstantial oversight.” Vera had earlier issued the memorandum, released on November 11, 2019, endorsing the 1st National Students’ Day Youth Camp to be held on 16- 17 November 2019 at the Palma Hall, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.
