Singson took his oath as a member of the NPC on Saturday morning, June 19, before NPC chairman and Senate President Vicente Sotto III.
Senate President Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto III , Nationalist People’s Coalition chairman, administers the oath of former Ilocos Sur governor and incumbent Narvacan Mayor Luis ‘Chavit’ Singson as the political party’s new member at the NPC clubhouse in Quezon City on June 19, 2021. “[A] Very strong asset! He not only governs Ilocos Sur, he us presently the president of the Municipal Mayor’s Leagues of the Philippines,” Sotto said of Singson.
Singson has served as Ilocos Sur governor in several terms, before winning as chief executive of the Narvacan town in the 2019 midterm polls under the local political party Bileg Ti Ilokano. He was a member of the Lakas-Chistrian Muslim Democrats . He quit the political party in 2010 after endorsing the presidential bid of former senator Manny Villar, who is of the Nacionalista Party .The political kingpin has also been tapped by the Liberal Party for his influence in the province.
Chavit is reported as saying that he does not belong to a national party and he sees the NPC as the “most stable” of all the political parties in the Philippines.The filing of certificates of candidacy starts on October 1, 2021.
