During their meeting on Saturday, June 25, there was a consensus on policy matters that need immediate attention as agreed upon by outgoing Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones and Vice President-elect and incoming DepEd Chief Sara Duterte: the guidelines for the incoming school year and the agency’s budget for 2023.

(Photo from DepEd Facebook page) Issuing a statement, DepEd said that “these will be the subject of immediate consultations between the concerned members of both teams.” DepEd Transition Teams, led by Briones and Duterte, held their first in-person meeting at the DepEd Office of the Secretary in Pasig City.  In a Facebook post, the Department of Education said Duterte visited Briones at the agency's main office in Pasig City, where they had a one-on-one meeting before attending a transition briefing with top DepEd officials. The meeting, DepEd said, was preceded by a preparatory exchange of letters and communications to define the agenda of the meeting.The outgoing secretary also said that they will turn-over the Basic Education Plan 2030, the Departement's medium-term development plan for education,Duterte-Carpio had earlier stated her support for the resumption of face-to-face classes in the country once she assumes post on June 30. DepEd said that the program started with a one-on-one meeting between the Vice President-elect and the Secretary before the Transition Team meeting. "That the department will be concurrently led by no less that the Vice President speaks to the highest priority that education will be given under the incoming administration,” Briones said in a statement ahead of Duterte's inauguration  as the Philippines' 15th vice president on June 19. During her inauguration on June 19, Briones asked education stakeholders to support the Duterte as she leads the biggest bureaucracy of the government.

The outgoing administration will transition the work of the National Consultations Convening Committee to the new administration. It will be recalled that the first leg of the consultations was held last June 14 at the National Educators’ Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) in Baguio City. .
