tv MANILA - A low pressure area or brewing storm is creeping closer to the Philippines on the heels of tropical storm Ineng, which inundated vast tracts of farmland last week and left 2 areas under a state of calamity, the weather bureau said Monday.

Spotted 770 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, the LPA might intensify into a tropical depression that would be named "Jenny" in 24 to 36 hours, said PAGASA weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin. The LPA's trough or extension and the habagat on Monday will bring light to moderate and at times heavy rains over Mimaropa, Bicol, Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao and Zamboanga Peninsula, said PAGASA weather forecaster Meno Mendoza.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience cloudy and localized thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening, he told radio DZMM. Ineng, meanwhile, has left some P589 million worth of agricultural damage in Ilocos Norte, where it swamped farmlands and drowned cattle last week, said local officials.

Ilocos Norte and Laoag City have been placed under a state of calamity that will allow local officials to tap emergency funds.
