Around P2 billion worth of counterfeit items, mostly signature brands imitation, that were seized in various operations in Parañaque City last month were destroyed by the Bureau of Customs on Saturday, July 5.
DESTROYED!– Through shredding and crushing, a P2-billion haul of fake items were destroyed by the Bureau of Customs on July 3, 2021. The items were various footwears, clothes, bags, and cosmetic products bearing brand names such as Louis Vitton, Nike, Vans, Adidas, Jordan, Hello Kitty, New Balance, Victoria’s Secret, Lacoste, NBA, Gucci, Tribal, Jag, Fila, Supreme, Bulgari, Puma, Micky Mouse, Wrangler, Cetaphil, Nivea, and Jergens among others.
According to Port of Manila District Collector Michael Angelo Vargas, the counterfeit goods were uncovered in warehouses in Baclaran, Paranaque City in June 2021. Vargas warned the public to be wary of using counterfeit products as they may have adverse side effects, including lotions, perfumes, and even electronic products that are substandard as he stressed the bureau’s commitment against the proliferation of counterfeit and fake products.
The condemnation activity was attended by Port of Manila Deputy Collector for Operations Liza Sebastian, Auction and Cargo Disposal Division Chief Enrico Turingan III, Intellectual Property Rights Division Chief Dominic Garcia, members of the Enforcement and Security Service and representatives from the National Committee on Intellectual Property Rights and from various brand owners.
