BIR welcomes corruption probe ordered by PRRD; says tax cheats fanning graft in the bureau

Sources at the BIR said tax cheats are fanning graft and corruption at the BIR to cut down on tax payments.

The same sources said many taxmen readily accept the illegal windfall to augment their low take home pay. President Duterte ordered the DOJ to lead the task force to stop widespread corruption in selected government offices including the BIR, the Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Bureau of Customs.

“We welcome outside probers to assist us in our continuing effort to kick out the remaining bad eggs in the service,” Dulay said. He added that he is doing his best to make the bureau an efficient and honest tax collection machine which supplies more than 70 percent of the government’s annual budgetary requirements. He said the BIR’s performance the past years earned congratulatory notes from Malacanang, 8888 Complaint Center, and the Department of Finance, the mother unit of the BIR.
