The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) sued Thursday 12 corporate and four individual taxpayers for alleged refusal to settle tax debts totaling to more than P344 million.

The latest batch of complaints brought to 550 the number of tax evasion cases filed by Revenue Commissioner Caesar Dulay before the Department of Justice since he assumed the top BIR post in 2016.

The respondents were identified as Fritz and Macziol Asia Inc.

The accused individual taxpayers were Adelia Ramenda of Future Link Research Services of Kamias Road, QC; Cecilia Galang of Altis Construction of West Triangle, QC; Teodora Membreve of Goodwin Construction of Calamba City; and Bobby Fallaria of RFF Mix Product of San Pedro, Laguna. BIR prosecutors said the complaints, which also included key corporate officials, were submitted to the DOJ for review and approval for appropriate filing before the Court of Tax Appeals.

They said assessment and collection letters sent to the accused remained unanswered, covering mostly income, value-added, and withholding taxes for 2016 and prior years.
