Filipino billiards icon Efren “Bata” Reyes is one step closer to winning that elusive gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games after advancing to the semifinals of the three-cushion carom.
The 65-year-old cue artist simply dominated Thailand’s Punyawee Thongchai, 100-37, Wednesday at the Manila Hotel. Three-cushion carom is a popular form of billiards that dates back to the 1870s. The objective of the game is to carom and hit the rail cushions at least three times before hitting one object ball. A point is scored for each successful carom.
Reyes will face the winner between fellow Filipino Francisco Dela Cruz and Thailand’s Yuttapop Pakpoj on December 5. The semis match is scheduled on December 6 at the same venue.
