– The Baguio City Police Office reported a decrease of 38 percent in total crime volume incidents from January to November this year as compared to the same period last year or 1,184 less incidents in 2019 as compared to the 3,119 reported in 2018.Police Colonel Allen Rae Co, city police director, said that incidents of physical injuries decreased by 12 percent; robbery by five percent; murder by 56 percent; homicide by 44 percent and carnapping or theft of motorcycles by 43 percent.
Co added that vehicular traffic accidents in the city lowered to 815 from last year’s 1,887 accidents or a significant decrease of 57 percent due to community cooperation, traffic scheme, safety protocols and measures implemented including strategic plans and programs initiated by Mayor Benjamin Magalong.
Co also reported the arrests of a total of 829 wanted persons during the same period, including one top most wanted from the regional level; one from the city level; one from the municipal level; and 33 from the station level. “We believe that the arrests of persons who have pending warrants will bring about a more peaceful community as, logically, people behind bars cannot commit any more crimes,” Co stressed.
The BCPO also arrested 383 persons by virtue of warrantless arrests who were involved in various cases like homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft and other non-index crimes. They also accounted for 38 firearms of which 20 were surrendered and 18 confiscated with 14 persons arrested with appropriate charges filed against them through checkpoints and by virtue of search warrants.
