BAFTA nominee Dolly de Leon puts her best foot forward for Project Hulmahan

On February 19, she'll be flying to London to attend the BAFTA awards where she received a nom for Best Supporting Actress for the Ruben Ostlund-directed film. Bernardo is the mother of Patreng Non, who started the Maginhawa Community Pantry back in April 2021. The wave of kindness and hope rippled, which inspired other people to organize their own community pantries in various parts of the country.

The rich-filled untold narratives carried by each pair — these alone make the hand-sculpted shoe lasts as works of art by themselves. According to Bernardo, the project has gathered more than 600 art works and will be presented in a mall on March 15 — the day of the Luzon lockdown in 2020 due to Covid-19. The shoe lasts will be auctioned with proceeds to be used for "community-based food sovereignty, livelihood, and art programs."

With de Leon's nominations and international exposure, however, Bernardo says de Leon has always been part of their advocacy work right from the start: "I guess it just got exciting. It's still the four of us. But whatever opportunity there is, let's use that for the good."
