Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire appealed to the public to postpone celebrations of the Chinese New Year on Feb. 1 to help prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

“We remind our citizens to postpone gatherings or reunions because our cases are still high. Even if we are vaccinated, we can still get infected and spread the virus to others,” Vergeire said. Mayor Joy Belmonte issued a memorandum prohibiting activities such as parades and processions in the upcoming Chinese New Year and, if the current alert level is extended or escalated, during fiestas in the coming months.

Also prohibited were group videoke and other celebratory gatherings that violate social distancing; noise pollution due to excessive merrymaking; and comingling of multiple households through large parties and “open-door” fiesta celebrations.Belmonte said all participants of activities that occur outside the home should be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Upon arrival in the Philippines, they shall undergo facility-based quarantine with an RT-PCR test taken on the 5th day.
