On Thursday, Duque took the place of the department's spokesperson in answering questions from the public and media on the COVID-19 pandemic. The health chief placed himself under home quarantine after a senior health official tested positive for COVID-19. He was also tested for the virus because he has asthma, which is among the pre-existing conditions that put people at risk for the disease, and he is an elderly. Four days ago, his agency announced that Duque tested negative for the novel coronavirus. The country's COVID-19 cases rose to 707 on Thursday, including 45 fatalities and 28 recoveries.
