After quarantine, Duque to continue working from home as he recovers from cough, asthma

MANILA — Health Secretary Francisco Duque III on Thursday said he will continue to work from home despite testing negative for COVID-19 and finishing his mandatory quarantine. “Nais ko rin sabihin sa inyo, bagamat nakalipas na ang 14 days, nag-desisyon po akong ipagpatuloy muna ang pagtatrabaho sa bahay habang pinapagaling ko naman ang aking konting ubo dahil ako ay asthmatic,” he said during a televised briefing. (I want to tell everyone that while 14 days have passed, I have decided to continue working from home as I recover from my coughing because of my asthma.) On Thursday, Duque took the place of the department's spokesperson in answering questions from the public and media on the COVID-19 pandemic. The health chief placed himself under home quarantine after a senior health official tested positive for COVID-19. He was also tested for the virus because he has asthma, which is among the pre-existing conditions that put people at risk for the disease, and he is an elderly. Four days ago, his agency announced that Duque tested negative for the novel coronavirus. The country's COVID-19 cases rose to 707 on Thursday, including 45 fatalities and 28 recoveries.
